Older People

WORK WITH THE ELDERLY
John & Marshall We befriend and support older people in the community in order to reduce loneliness and isolation. We rely heavily on our wonderful volunteers for this work, who visit and arrange activities for people with a variety of needs – ranging from those who are still active and mobile, to those who are very frail and housebound. This includes:

Befriending support, such as telephone contact and visiting older people in their own homes, forms an integral part in reducing isolation and loneliness. Providing support, such as assistance with shopping, not only provides practical assistance – it also helps them to know somebody cares for them, and there is somebody there if they need them.

We provide opportunities for older people to socialise with each other through a range of activities:

– Bi-monthly lunch clubs

– Fortnightly friendship group for the over 50’s

– Day trips
